Actor Awards Snubs and Surprises: Michael B. Jordan Wins and More
Mar 1, 2026 7:46pm PT Actor Awards 2026 Snubs and Surprises: Michael B. Jordan Triumphs, Michelle Williams Celebrated and Rhea Seehorn Left Cold By William Earl Plus Icon William Earl @beautifulbill Latest ‘Marshals’ Premiere Shocker: [SPOILER]’s Sudden Death Kicks Off ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff With a Twist 2 hours ago ‘Marshals’ Star Logan Marshall-Green on His Character’s Tense Brotherhood With Kayce and Surviving Extreme Fight Choreography Known as the ‘Pain Train’ 6 hours ago Netflix Boss Ted Sarandos Speaks Out After Losing Warner Bros. Bid: Paramount Offers Were ‘Irrational,’ Relied on Political Pressure Because It’s ‘Cheaper to Make Noise’ 8 hours ago See All Getty Images The 2026 Actor Awards — previously known as the SAG Awards — have come and gone, and the Screen Actors Guild has celebrated the best work in their industry. The light and speedy ceremony focused on award distribution and speeches versus long comedic bits and musical numbers, but there were plenty of unexpected moments. Check out some of the night’s biggest snubs and surprises below. Surprise: Michael B. Jordan nabs best actor away from Timothée Chalamet Although the biggest narrative of award season has been Timothée Chalamet’s quest for an Oscar for “Marty Supreme,” his fellow actors chose to celebrate Jordan’s dual role in “Sinners” instead. After Jordan’s win, “Sinners” went on to win the night’s big ensemble award as well. Related Stories Harry Styles Brings Disco to the BRIT Awards With First-Ever Performance of 'Aperture' Harry Styles to Curate and Perform at London’s Meltdown Festival Surprise: Sean Penn skipping the ceremony, despite a surge in his supporting actor campaign — and winning his Actor award The actor famously does what he wants and doesn’t like to participate in award season, but it seems like he would have shown up for this. Popular on Variety Surprise: Michelle Williams’ win for “Dying for Sex” Given the overwhelming awards success of “Adolescence,” it was nice to see Williams’ strong turn in the dramedy get recognition. Surprise: Woody Harrelson’s funny speech to present the Life Achievement Award to Harrison Ford It initially seemed like an odd pairing, but it was fun to see Harrelson’s unconventional, warm and familiar speech for his buddy Ford. Plus, he got to take a few fun shots at the legend — it was a good time! Surprise: Uncensored swearing onstage I’m no puritan, but given the traditional award show trappings, it was strange to hear host Kristen Bell and several winners casually drop f-bombs on Netflix. Surprise: The lighting was terrible Surely all of these beautiful people aren’t so orange and sweaty in real life! Surprise: SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin praises Ted Sarandos for Netflix’s support of the union It makes sense as the show aired on the streamer, but it was also telling timing, given that contract negotiations are going on. Snubbed: Rhea Seehorn’s work in “Pluribus” While Keri Russell is beloved, it seems like perhaps the “White Lotus” voters split ballots between Parker Posey and Aimee Lou Wood, and sci-fi fans split between Seehorn and “Severance” star Britt Lower, leaving Russell the sole survivor. Surprise: “The Last of Us” wins best stunt ensemble Given it was up against action-heavy final seasons of “Stranger Things,” “Andor,” and “Squid Game,” it’s surprising that the more muted sophomore season of “The Last of Us” was awarded.
