Arnold Schwarzenegger to Star in King Conan Directed by Christopher McQuarrie
Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed his return to the fantasy action series Conan, which will see him revisiting the character that led to his Hollywood breakout. Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible) is set to write and direct a new film titled King Conan. During an appearance at his Arnold Sports Festival (via TheArnoldFans) in Columbus, Ohio, over the weekend, Schwarzenegger revealed FOX Studios is moving forward with the follow-up to 1982’s Conan the Barbarian and its sequel Conan the Destroyer. Buy Conan Films on Blu-ray “They just hired a fantastic writer/director who did Tom Cruise’s last four movies,” the 78-year-old actor said. “They just hired [Christopher McQuarrie] to write and direct King Conan.” He added that the part will be written to be “age-appropriate,” where he will “still go in there and kick some ass, but it will be different.” Advertisement Related Video Schwarzenegger continued, “With King Conan, it’s a great old story that Conan was forty years as King, and now he gets forced out of the kingdom, and there’s conflict, of course, but somehow he comes back, and there’s all kinds of madness, violence, magic, and creatures and stuff like that. And now, of course, there [are] all kinds of special effects. The studio has plenty of money to make those movies really big, so I’m looking forward to all of those projects.” Outside of King Conan, Schwarzenegger gave updates on potentially appearing in another Predator movie and also revisiting 1985’s Commando. “They did an additional Predator, and the director (Dan Trachtenberg) has been doing a great job of that,” he said. “Now, he wants me to be in the next Predator. We’ve talked about it. As a matter of fact, FOX Studios has kind of rediscovered ‘Arnold.’ They’ve come to me and said, ‘We want you to do Predator, we just got a script for you to do Commando 2.” Talk about Schwarzenegger returning to the Conan franchise has been bandied about since 2012, when producers Chris Morgan and Frederick Malmberg announced plans for a sequel titled The Legend of Conan.
