Famed film, television, and video-game composer Bear McCreary has announced his return to the world of rock and metal with his upcoming album The Singularity: Ekleipsis, out Juy 31st via Sparks & Shadows Records.
The album features a bevy of guest stars across its 15 tracks, including Alissa White-Gluz (Blue Medusa, ex-Arch Enemy), Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy), Claudio Sanchez (Coheed and Cambria), Slash and Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Jens Kidman (Meshuggah), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and more.
In advance of the follow up to his 2024 album The Singularity, McCready has released both the overture as well as first single “Black Box” featuring Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier and the women’s choir the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices.

McCreary has also announced a West Coast tour of North America that will follow a summer UK/European run. The eight-show stateside jaunt kicks off in Portland, Oregon, on September 8th, passing through San Francisco, Los Angeles, and other cities, before winding down in Las Vegas on September 18th. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster and McCready’s official website.
McCreary stated, “‘Black Box,’ our debut single, was written in collaboration with and features Joe Duplantier, of the iconic band Gojira. It blends my cinematic background with Joe’s distinctive vocals, harmonized beautifully by the legendary women’s choir the Mystery of the Bulgarian Voices. Equally inspired by ’90s alternative bands, Eastern European folk music, symphonic film scores, and progressive metal, ‘Black Box’ encapsulates the epic scope of Ekleipsis while just cracking open the door to the rest of the album.”
He added, “I need more cinematic metal in my life! The Singularity: Ekleipsis builds upon the musical and narrative themes of my 2024 album The Singularity, and this time around it rocks even harder. My brother, vocalist/producer Brendan McCreary, and I were once again thrilled to partner with a number of inspiring artists for this record, each of whom brought their unique musical personalities and perspectives to the project.”
