ShareFacebookX (formerly Twitter)Lucy Dacus was searching for a familiar feeling with her choice of cover for Like A Version, it was little surprise to her that she landed on Daniel Caesar's 2025 track, 'Who Knows'.Deemed a "perfect song" by the Virginian-born singer, Lucy picked the track because she felt it existed in the same universe as her last album, Forever Is A Feeling."It's my favourite type of love song because it's uncertain," she said."And that is another reason why I wanted to play it – because it kind of thematically connected to what I wanted to do on Forever Is A Feeling, which is just this like 'everything is impermanent, we don't actually know, but we have these feelings that we have to honour and do right by'."Surrounded by her band, including a violinist and her drummer keeping time with drum brushes on a hotel room service menu, Lucy Dacus tenderly pulled the track into her warm folk-pop realm.It felt exactly like we were sitting on the floor of the room where the band rehearsed their cover, wrapped in a big, warm blanket and sipping a soothing tea."We just went to my hotel room and practised it," Lucy said."Got on the bed, pulled some guitars. You may notice that my drummer Ricardo [Lagomasino] is playing brushes on a piece of paper – that's just the bar menu from the hotel room. It was a stand-in for the kit but then we were like 'that kinda sounds good.'"So it's that, and then they have two shakers in their sock.
