Mackenzie Davis & Gugu Mbatha-Raw in 'San Junipero'
Heaven is a place on earth in San Junipero, with the fan favorite “Black Mirror” episode set to receive a graphic novel adaptation.
Twisted Comics, in collaboration with Banijay Rights, has launched a Kickstarter to fund the project following the success of last year’s USS Callister graphic novel.
The queer sci-fi romance adaptation is written by Neil Gibson with artwork by Phil Buckenham and cover art from Butcher Billy.
The year is 1987. Tucker’s nightclub is aglow with neon, the music is loud, and people are dancing. The shy Yorkie meets Kelly and plays along with her rejection of Wes, who has been making continued advances to her. The two dance.
An offer of how to spend the rest of their evening is made, then declined, and Yorkie and Kelly go their separate ways. Until…
Another week. Another vibe. Another decade. On and on their journey goes, across time, across soundtracks — their intertwined lives in these clubs is just the beginning.
Having reached its goal less than an hour after launching, the hardcover graphic novel is due out in July. You can secure a copy now for £25 (about $34). Additional perks — including cameos in the comic — are also available.
“San Junipero is one of the most loved ‘Black Mirror’ episodes and translating it into a graphic novel was something we approached with real care,” said Gibson. “Our goal was to honor the tone and emotion of the original story while presenting it in a format that both fans and comic readers can experience in a new way.”
Directed by Owen Harris and written by series creator Charlie Brooker, San Junipero premeired in 2016 as part of the third season of “Black Mirror.” Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis star.
“Black Mirror” Season 8 is currently in the works at Netflix.

Dive spoon-first into a big bowl of ’80s nostalgia with Cereal Savages, coming June 30 from 1984 Publishing.
Seven years in the making, the 152-page graphic novel is written by Hans Rodionoff (Lost Boys: The Tribe, Deep Blue Sea 2) and illustrated by Garbage Pail Kids artist Joe Simko.
Cereal Savages follows four disgraced cereal mascots from the 1980s now struggling to survive in the modern world. With help from their middle-aged superfan Mike, they’ll confront old demons, repair broken friendships, and battle an oozy, apocalyptic milk monster threatening the globe.
It’s heartfelt. It’s ridiculous. It’s crunchy chaos at its finest.
The limited hardcover edition features shimmering blue foil-gilded page edges, a pink ribbon marker, and a foreword by “The Goldbergs” creator Adam F. Goldberg.
“This hilarious book kept me choking with laughter ’til long after breakfast!” praises Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine.
