Celebrated International Filmmakers Join HKIFF
The Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) proudly welcomes a host of internationally renowned filmmakers, including Juliette Binoche, Ildikó Enyedi, and Anthony Chen, for its Golden Jubilee celebrations.  They will participate in masterclasses and face-to-face sessions to share their passion for cinema with local audiences. French Academy Award-winning actress Juliette Binoche will present her two latest films in Hong Kong: her directorial debut, In-I In Motion, featuring a dance theatre collaboration with choreographer Akram Khan; and Queen at Sea, a film that recently received the Berlinale Silver Bear Jury Prize and the Silver Bear for Best Supporting Performance for Anna Calder-Marshall and Tom Courtenay, which delicately explores the complex emotions linked to her mother’s dementia.  Additionally, a retrospective titled “Juliette Binoche: The Choreographer of Emotion” will showcase three of her most acclaimed films: Krzysztof Kieślowski’s Three Colours: Blue, Anthony Minghella’s The English Patient, and Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy, which earned her Best Actress awards at Venice, Berlin, and Cannes, respectively. Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi, a Berlinale Golden Bear winner for On Body and Soul, returns to HKIFF after her first visit in 2017.  Her latest film, Silent Friend, stars Tony Leung Chiu-wai and offers a tender exploration of humanity and our connection with nature.  This film earned Enyedi the FIPRESCI Prize at Venice and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Luna Wedler. Singaporean filmmaker Anthony Chen has earned international praise, winning the Caméra d’Or at Cannes for Ilo Ilo and the Fei Mu Award for Best Film at the Pingyao International Film Festival for Wet Season.  This year, he will guide audiences through his artistic journey with the “Anthony Chen’s Growing Up Trilogy” programme, which will also include We Are All Strangers, the first Singaporean film to compete for the Golden Bear at the recent Berlinale. HKIFF’s Golden Jubilee celebration would be incomplete without long-time friend Tsai Ming-Liang. This year, he presents his latest work, Back Home, which offers a contemplative view of rural Laos as he accompanies Ah Nong on a homecoming journey.  Regular festival attendee Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang will showcase his chilling thriller, Morte Cucina. Similarly, Indonesian director Edwin‘s new film, Sleep No More, promises to send shivers down viewers’ spines.  British experimental artist Ben Rivers invites the audience into a world without adults through uncanny landscapes in his film, Mare’s Nest, a work of great beauty and mystery. The 50th Hong Kong International Film Festival will take place over 12 days, from 1 to 12 April 2026.  The full programme will be announced on 10 March. Tags:Hong Kong International Film Festival
