Neon has released a teaser poster for Hokum, with the promise of a trailer tomorrow. If it’s anything like the freaky teaser, we’re in for a treat. The new nightmare from Oddity writer-director Damian McCarthy hits theaters on May 1. Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past. Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), and Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”), Siox C, and Ezra Carlisle round out the cast. Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum. Ben Ross (Late Night With the Devil), Dan Kagan (Longlegs), Rami Yasin (Late Night with the Devil), and Andrew Childs (The Long Walk) serve as executive producers. Hokum will have its world premiere at SXSW this weekend in Austin, Texas.
