A film student uncovers a cursed horror movie in the trailer for City Wide Fever, a lo-fi love letter to Italian giallo cinema with a meta twist. The indie film opens in Alamo Drafthouse cinemas nationwide on April 15 via Factory 25. It’s also coming to Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome. Sam, a young film student, discovers a USB detailing the life and career of forgotten Italian horror director Saturnino Barresi. As she begins to investigate his mysterious disappearance, Sam finds herself pulled into a violent conspiracy eerily similar to those of the giallo films she adores. Diletta Guglielmi, Angelica Kim, and Nancy Kimball star with Onur Tukel (Summer of Blood), Larry Fessenden (You’re Next), Carolyn Farina (The Age of Innocence), and comedian Ian Fidance. Writer-director Josh Heaps makes his feature debut on the project. He also produces alongside Vincent “Chenzy” Graziano. “I’m going to be 70 in a few months, and I feel you could use a more youthful voice,” said filmmaker Guy Maddin (My Winnipeg, Rumours). “A really cool movie.” Maddin executive produces with Robert Forbes, Richard Stoeffel, Jim Stoeffel, Brooks May, Amanda Romo, Franklin Laviola, and Nicholas Laviola. The indie psychological thriller is slated to shoot this spring in Ohio, with Sage O’Bryant directing from a script by Eric Swinderman. Abrahams stars as Arthur Thorne, a tightly wound man battling crippling anxiety and a traumatic past. When his therapist, Dr. Sharma (Rose), begins revealing an unsettling knowledge of his deepest fears, Arthur starts to suspect his reality is being manipulated. As pressure mounts from his domineering boss, Pendergast (Temple), Arthur uncovers evidence that his unraveling mind may be part of a calculated experiment, driving him toward a desperate and violent confrontation. Emelia Sherin co-stars in addition to producing with O’Bryant and Swinderman via their Anhedonia Pictures. Abrahams, Matthew James, and Shera Piper will serve as executive producers.
