Doja Cat has come out in defense of Chappell Roan after the singer tore into the paparazzi and autograph seekers in Paris earlier this week, sharing that she has been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and wishes she could be “uncomfortable, comfortably” like Roan has been in similar situations.
In a nearly seven-minute TikTok post, Doja Cat explained that she has been “struggling with BPD” for “probably forever,” and that she’s been in therapy for years. She disclaims upfront that she’s not diagnosing Roan with BPD, but that she learned from a young age to “pretend that I like stuff” and that she sees a connection with her own struggles to how people are treating Roan for “showing her discomfort or showing her unamusedness, her disdain.”

“I fucking love that she does it,” she says. “I love that she can be uncomfortable, comfortably, in front of people and protect herself and be honest. I had to learn how to be honest. I had to learn how to be honest with myself. I lied to myself for years, for most of my life. And to see her sit there and… I love it. I love that she can do that without hurting people. She hasn’t hurt one person by being herself. And that shows that I can do the same and to be like fuck the paparazzi is the best way to be.”

Doja Cat continued by delving into the nuances of paparazzi and autograph-seeking culture. She focused on “resellers,” who pose as fans to ask for signatures but then hawk those items for profit. “They show up in places where the artist is going to be,” she says. “And it looks like when an artist walks past them, it looks like the artist doesn’t care, right?” She explains that resellers often ask for photos with the artist to prove that they obtained a legitimate signature.
“These artists aren’t just ignoring people because they’re full of themselves, and Chappell Roan is not hurting anybody,” she concludes. “So we can put that shit to bed. Let her have an attitude, because I would love to have one as well, and I fucking will, hopefully, in the future.”
The video of Roan in question went viral earlier this week after she demanded space from onlookers as she exited a car. “I’m being disregarded as a human,” she can be heard saying in the clip. “I’m just trying to go to dinner, and I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me.”
