Donald Glover has been announced as the voice of Yoshi in highly anticipated sequel The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The award-winning rapper and actor was revealed as part of a Nintendo Direct livestream on Monday (March 9), alongside fellow newcomers Luis Guzman as Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen.
Advertisement They will join the returning cast of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day in the title roles, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Jack Black as villain Bowser. A new trailer for the film has also been released, which you can view below.
Yoshi, a dinosaur ally of the Super Mario Bros, was first introduced in 1990 video game Super Mario World. He has appeared in many games since, including the Mario Kart and Mario Party franchise, as well as his own self-titled games. In TV and film, the character has appeared as part of the Super Mario World cartoon series, and an ill-fated live action movie, both released in the early ‘90s.
The Super Mario Bros Movie was released in 2023 and was a worldwide success, making over $1.3billion (£965million). Jack Black’s comedy song ‘Peaches’ from the film became a viral hit and eventually peaked in the US Billboard Hot 100 at Number 53.
The sequel will be released in cinemas April 1. The success of the movie has led Nintendo to greenlight other adaptations of their video games, including a live action adaptation of The Legend Of Zelda, which revealed its first images last year.
