Shortly after Eric Dane received his ALS diagnosis in 2025, the Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy star began working on a memoir as a way to document his family life, career and health struggles before he passed. Now, those notes and recollections are being detailed in My Book of Days, the late actor’s posthumous memoir, set to be released on Nov. 3 (pre-order it here).
Billed as a “memoir in moments,” Dane’s book offers a rare glimpse into how the actor approached defining events in his life, from “the grind of his early years in Hollywood and the hard-won peace of sobriety, to the profound clarity that came with his ALS diagnosis,” per a description. The actor reveals how he got clean after struggling with drugs and alcohol, and delves into his at-times tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Rebecca Gayheart, which also brought him the two loves of his life: daughters Billie Beatrice and Georgia. Dane also shares anecdotes from the sets of his popular TV shows and movies, reminiscing about favorite scenes and heartwarming cast memories.

As the title of the book suggests, the stories are told through a series of “days,” each revealing a poignant memory or lesson learned. Dane also writes about “future days” to come, encouraging his daughters — and readers — to not dwell on mistakes or regrets from the past, but rather to embrace opportunities to start anew.
As publisher The Open Field writes, “Poignant, vulnerable and deeply human, My Book of Days is a profound meditation on the passing of time and what matters most when you’re looking at life through the lens of a terminal illness.”
“I wake up every morning, and I’m immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge and that’s exactly why I’m writing this book,” Dane, 53, said in a statement issued by The Open Field when the book was first announced. “I want to capture the moments that shaped me — the beautiful days, the hard ones, the ones I never took for granted — so that if nothing else, people who read it will remember what it means to live with heart. If sharing this helps someone find meaning in their own days, then my story is worth telling.”
My Book of Days is available to pre-order now on Amazon as a hardcover book, ahead of its publication in November. The memoir is also available to listen to as an audiobook.
While the book will feature Dane’s final words in print form, the actor did leave a message for his daughters on film, as part of Netflix’s Famous Last Words docuseries. Dane taped his appearance in November 2025, using the last few minutes of the episode to urge his daughters to life their lives to the fullest extent.
“Live now. Right now. In the present,” Dane said. “It’s hard, but I learned to do that. For years, I have been wandering around mentally and lost in my head for long chunks of time, wallowing and worrying in self-pity, shame, and doubt. I’ve replayed decisions, second-guessed myself. ‘I shouldn’t have done this. I never should’ve that.’ No more. Out of pure survival, I am forced to stay in the present. But I don’t want to be anywhere else. The past contains regrets. The future remains unknown. So you have to live now. The present is all you have. Treasure it. Cherish every moment.”
Dane died on Feb. 19. He was 53.
