Extended Cut of Christophe Gans' 'Silent Hill' Unearthed on 35mm - Bloody Disgusting
A film archivist has unearthed a never-before-seen extended cut of Silent Hill. “This is the uncut version of the original Silent Hill,” Peter NC-17 shared on Twitter. “This cut runs longer than other versions. This print has had very few plays and I will be scanning this 35mm DTS version.” While the three-hour workprint remains elusive, this version is said to run 134 minutes — eight minutes longer than the cut that hit theaters back in 2006. Silent Hill director Christophe Gans confirmed during a recent Q&A that a 4K restoration of the film is in the works. NC-17 previously scanned some of writer Roger Avary‘s other work, which he praised, “The 4k scans by [NC-17] are from release prints with an attempt to preserve the original theatrical experience, grain, change marks, dust & damage, warts and all.” Based on the bestselling horror video game, Silent Hill follows desperate mother Rose, who takes her adopted daughter, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill in an attempt to cure her of her ailment. After a violent car crash, Sharon disappears and Rose begins a desperate search to get her back. She descends into the center of the twisted reality of a town’s terrible secret. Pursued by grotesquely deformed creatures and townspeople stuck in permanent purgatory, Rose begins to uncover the truth behind the apocalyptic disaster that burned the town 30 years earlier. Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, Kim Coates, Tanya Allen, Alice Krige, and Jodelle Ferland star. Gans recently helmed the sequel Return to Silent Hill, now available on Digital. Another serious rarity. This is the uncut version of the original Silent Hill. This cut runs longer than other versions. This print has had very few plays & I will be scanning this 35mm DTS version for writer @AVARY & for its filmmaker.
