Finn Wolfhard Announces New Album Fire From The Hip, Shares Lead Single "I'll Let You Finish"
With Stranger Things all wrapped up (mostly in a confusing little bundle), Finn Wolfhard can now get back to his other career: burgeoning rock star. And said career now includes a brand-new album, Fire From The Hip, due out July 10th via Night Shift Productions/AWAL. The 12-track LP serves as the follow-up to last spring’s Happy Birthday. Despite the relatively short timeframe between record, a press release claims that Fire From The Hip “expands on the raw indie rock energy of his debut while pushing into broader, more dynamic territory. ” If LP no. 1 was an “opening statement,” then his sophomore release “plays more like an evolution which is built around the energy of collaboration and the nostalgia woven throughout Wolfhard’s songwriting.” In statement, Wolfhard said that despite his young age, he wanted to explore themes around “reflection [and] cultural memory, ” working with engineer Andrew Humphrey to explore terrain first laid by two of The Rolling Stones’ most “pivotal rock albums,” Exile on Main Street and Beggars Banquet. They brought so many incredible ideas to the table and their creativity helped shape the record into what it is.” Our first taste of Fire From The Hip comes with its lead single, “I’ll Let You Finish.” If Wolfhard is, indeed, seeking a more “expansive and collaborative sound,” this song certainly fits that bill. Here, he and his cohorts basically split the difference between The Stones, The Strokes, and Guided by Voices, achieving peak indie-level jangly vibes while exuding a most singular charm and intent. Watch the song’s visualizer below. Pre-orders for Fire From The Hip are available here. Meanwhile, on the acting front, Wolfhard is set to take part in an upcoming Replacements biopic (based off Bob Mehr’s 2016 biography Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements).
