Game World Guesser is GeoGuesser, but for video game maps
Sign in to your Polygon.com account How well do you know the world of Baldur's Gate 3? You can put your expertise to the test with Game World Guesser, a free browser game that takes the idea of GeoGuesser and applies it to video game maps. In GeoGuesser, players are shown a random Google Street View from anywhere in the world. The goal is to roughly guess where that Street View is from, using context clues. What do the buildings look like? What language is on the street signs? The closer you are to the location, the more points you earn. Game World Guesser, a freshly relaunched version of a game that launched two years ago, follows the same basic idea, except you're shown a series of screenshots from a video game map. Based on that, you need to select which map each image is from and try to pinpoint where it's from on the map. You have a few tries to get it right, with the game telling you how close you are and whether you're on the right map. If you get close enough on an image within three tries, you pass! Image: Hallway Digital via Polygon The project just launched this month and only contains a few challenge sets right out of the gate. You can test your knowledge of Rocket League arenas, Valorant maps, and Baldur's Gate 3's open world. That last one is the most fun challenge at the moment, considering how large the world is and how many different biomes there are within it. You'll need to think hard about what area features giant mushrooms if you're going to get in the right ballpark. While there are only a handful of official challenges in the game right now, players can request Steam games they want to see added to the site, or create their own challenge sets based on what's available. In addition to the games that currently have sets, you can create challenges for Old School RuneScape, Counter-Strike 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. (If Mario Kart World gets added to this thing, I am going to run the table.) The site, which launched this month, is still in a very early state. Developer Hallway Digital has put out a roadmap for the project outlining future features. Sharing, achievements, ad-free subscriptions, and more are all planned for the game over the next few months.
