Goldie Hawn has not acted in a movie since 2020’s “The Christmas Chronicles,” but it’s not like the Oscar winner put herself in a self-imposted retirement. Hawn told People magazine that she would very much like to act agan. The problem is that the scripts being offered to her are not up to par, and Hawn is no longer interested in just acting for acting’s sake.
“It’s about the content,” Hawn said. “It has to do with the content. Acting for acting’s sake, taking things… I’ve read a lot of shows, a lot of scripts that I didn’t like or I didn’t think I’d fit. The one thing about acting is that I’ve done it, and I had a great career, and I honor that.”

“I would love to get a material that could actually be like, ‘Oh my God, I want this so bad. This is so funny. She’s so crazy. She’s so interesting.’ But I haven’t come across it,” she added. “If somebody came up with a really cool, funny script… I think it would be great.”
Hawn has no formal plans to return to acting at this time. She floated the idea of acting alongside her daughter and two-time Oscar nominee Kate Hudson, saying: “I would love that. And the two of us have thought a lot about it.”
After breaking out on television in the NBC sketch comedy series “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” and the CBS sitcom “Good Morning World,” Hawn delivered her star-making turn and won an Oscar for the 1969 movie “Cactus Flower.” Her other major films include “The Sugarland Express,” “Shampoo,” “The First Wives Club,” “Overboard” and “Private Benjamin,” the latter of which earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress.
Hawn took a 15-year acting break between 2002’s “The Banger Sisters,” a comedy-drama co-starring Susan Sarandon, and 2017’s “Snatched,” an R-rated comedy with Amy Schumer. She worked with husband Kurt Russell on Netflix’s “Christmas Chronicles” movies.
