Jehnny Beth and Mike Patton Link Up on New Song "Look at Me"
Savages vocalist Jehnny Beth has teamed up with one of her biggest influences, Mike Patton, on her new single, “Look at Me.” Stream it below. A contrast in styles, “Look at Me” finds Beth switching between whisper-like singing and visceral, chanted vocals more in line with Patton’s own contributions. The percussion and bassline are similarly aggressive, topped by a heavy guitar riff. As a result, he was top of mind when Beth and Johnny Hostile had the idea of writing “Look At Me” in two parts. The self-directed music video was inspired by Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, with Beth embodying Robert De Niro’s role as a “lonely outcast who doesn’t have a place in the world” and Patton playing a preacher who changes her outlook on life before the two characters merge at the end. Beth has lined up a series of dates in Europe, the UK, and Ireland in support of You Heartbreaker, You. She’s also set to open for Deftones in Mexico City on March 29th. See the schedule below, and get tickets here. Meanwhile, Patton is heading out on the road this spring with The Avett Brothers in support of their AVTT/PTTN project.
