Kevin Williamson to Write Universal Monsters Show Described as "Adult 'Vampire Diaries'" - Bloody Disgusting

Hot off of Scream 7‘s franchise-best opening, writer-director Kevin Williamson is heading back to the world of television with a project that will see him tackling even more horror icons. “Netflix and Universal were very kind to let me go direct Scream 7 and put some projects on hold, and now I’m focused on those,” Williamson tells Esquire. “The one I’m writing right now is a show. You might call it an adult ‘Vampire Diaries.’ It’s based in the Universal monster land. I get to play with some of those characters like Dracula and Frankenstein and the Wolf Man and have fun there.” Williamson co-created “The Vampire Diaries,” the supernatural teen drama that aired on The CW for eight seasons between 2009 and 2017. His TV pedigree also includes “Dawson’s Creek” and “The Following,” among others. In theaters now, Scream 7 saw Williamson return to the director’s chair for the for the first time since 1999’s Teaching Mrs. Tingle. He co-wrote the script with Guy Busick (Scream 2022, Scream VI). Meagan Navarro wrote in her review, “Williamson retains a strong grasp of crafting nerve-fraying set pieces as Ghostface wastes no time launching into stalk-and-slash attacks, putting Sidney immediately into survival mode.” Williamson is also attached to co-wrote and executive produce an adaptation of Ashley Elston’s suspense thriller novel First Lie Wins.
