Titled “Mary,” the episode will premiere on the streamer on March 27. It begins with Scorsese sharing personal details about what Easter meant to him as a child growing up in New York’s Little Italy neighborhood. The legendary filmmaker then explores the storied life of Mary as she becomes the mother of Jesus Christ. The special explores Mary’s unwavering devotion and the strength that defined her as both a mother and one of Christianity’s most revered figures.” Popular on Variety First debuting in November 2024, “The Saints” is created and directed by Matti Leshem and written by Kent Jones. Scorsese presents, narrates and executive produces the series, and he developed it for Lionsgate Alternative Television. Additional EPs include  Julie Yorn, Craig Piligian, Rick Yorn, Lisa Frechette and Christopher Donnelly. Along with Lionsgate, the series was produced by Sikelia Productions, Weimaraner Republic Pictures and LBI Entertainment. The series focuses on the lives of various Christian saints, including Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, Saint Sebastian, Maximilian Kolbe, Francis of Assisi, Moses the Black and Mary Magdalene. Each episode is buttoned by a discussion between Scorsese, Catholic priest James Martin and writers Mary Karr and Paul Elie about that week’s chosen saint.
