Monarch Media’s Alan Powell has partnered once again with Adam Anders on the teen musical series “Youth Group,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The official logline for the show states, “In a modern megachurch, a pastor’s son sparks a viral reckoning by questioning the faith he’s always practiced—turning a youth worship team into the front line of a musical fight over truth, legacy, and belief.”

Anders and Powell are co-creators and co-showrunners on “Youth Group.” Anders executive produces under his Nightlight Media banner, while Powell, Steve Barnett, and Vicky Patel will executive produce via Monarch Media.
This marks the latest musical project for Powell and Monarch Media. Powell previously co-wrote the Monarch musical film “A Week Away” for Netflix in 2021, with the film following a group of Christian teens at summer camp. That led to the spinoff series of the same name, which was released by Angel Studios in 2025 and became the highest-rated show on the Angel Studios streaming service. Powell created the show in addition to serving as executive producer and showrunner. Powell, a founding member of the Christian rock band Anthem Lights, also produced music for the series.
Anders is a powerhouse producer in the music world, with over 100 millions albums sold and four consecutive Grammy nominations to his name. He previously collaborated with Monarch Media on the 2023 feature film “Journey to Bethlehem,” which Anders wrote, directed, and produced. Sony Pictures distributed. Anders is also known for his work on shows like “Glee” and for the “High School Musical” and “Descendants” films for Disney.
He is repped by Verve, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Loeb & Loeb.
In addition to “A Week Away” and “Journey to Bethlehem,” Monarch Media’s past credits include the Richard Linklater film “Hit Man” starring Glen Powell. They also have the upcoming adult animated film “Tangles” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Abbi Jacobson and Seth Rogen as well as “Babies” starring Rogen, Anna Kendrick, David Strathairn, Sharon Stone, Ed Helms and Issa Rae. Monarch is also prepping a reboot of the 2002 film “A Walk to Remember.”
