Nicolas Cage hitches a ride in a new look from “Spider-Noir,” courtesy of Empire.
Like the show itself, the image is available in both “authentic black & white” and “true-hue full color.”
Based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir, the live-action series will debut on MGM+’s linear channel on May 25 before all eight episodes stream on Prime Video on May 27.
It follows Ben Reilly, a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.
Co-showrunners Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Steve Lightfoot (“The Punisher”) developed “Spider-Noir” with the Academy Award-winning team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal.
“It’s not a continuation of Into the Spider-Verse,” Uziel explains to Empire. “It’s a different flavor of that character, even though it’s still Nic’s voice.”
He adds, “Once Phil and Chris introduced the idea of the multiverse, I think you’re allowed to take things and make them your own.”
Cage stars in his first leading television role alongside Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li , Karen Rodriguez, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson.
Guest stars include Lukas Haas, Cameron Britton, Cary Christopher, Michael Kostroff, Scott MacArthur, Joe Massingill, Whitney Rice, Amanda Schull, Andrew Caldwell, Amy Aquino, Andrew Robinson, and Kai Caster.
Emmy winner Harry Bradbeer (“Fleabag,” Enola Holmes) directed the first two episodes. Sony Pictures Television produces.
Executive producers include Lord, Miller, Aditya Sood & Dan Shear for Lord Miller, Pascal for Pascal Pictures, Cage, Uziel, Lightfoot, Bradbeer, and Pavlina Hatoupis (“The Alienist”).
