Ella Purnell in "Yellowjackets"
Nicholas Galitzine (Masters of the Universe) and Ella Purnell (“Fallout,” “Yellowjackets”) will star in the seductive thriller The Return of Stanley Atwell, Variety reports.
Written and directed by Brian Welsh (“Black Mirror”), the film is based on an original story by Steven Soderbergh (Contagion, Ocean’s Eleven), who also serves as executive producer.
The story follows Stanley Atwell (Galitzine), the presumed dead son and heir to Lord Atwell’s title and fortune, after he unexpectedly returns to the family estate having escaped a decade of mysterious captivity.
Atwell’s shocking reappearance causes chaos as he finds his sister Beatrice fighting to claim his inheritance, whilst close friend Pamela (Purnell) manipulates his puzzling return, and a dark family secret, in a bid to seize control of the Atwell fortune.
Sex, passion, backstabbing, and betrayal wreak havoc across the estate as the lies and deception the Atwell name has been built upon start to unravel. How far is each family member willing to go to protect their own wealth and status… and what is really behind the return of Stanley Atwell?
Liza Marshall (Hamnet) of Hera Pictures and John Gore of John Gore Studios produce. Soderbergh executive produces with Hilary Strong and Francis Hopkinson, alongside Protagonist Pictures.
“Ella has an incredible ability to move between vulnerability, humor, and danger,” said Welsh. “She’s a wonderfully versatile actor, and I’m thrilled to have her joining Nicholas in The Return of Stanley Atwell. It’s a brilliant combination.”
The Return of Stanley Atwell will soon enter production in the UK and Malta. Protagonist Pictures will handle international sales, with WME Independent co-repping US rights.
Galitzine can next be seen as He-Man in Masters of the Universe, in theaters June 5. Purnell will return in “Sweatpea” Season 2 this year on Starz.

It might’ve been “Ash vs. Evil Dead.” Or Mayhem. The Babysitter? Ready or Not? Whichever one it was, there was probably a movie where you first saw Samara Weaving and predicted that she was likely to become a massive star. And you would’ve been absolutely correct!
Beginning with her role in the Evil Dead TV series 10 years ago, Weaving has indeed become a bright shining star in the horror genre, with her big screen breakout coming in Radio Silence’s Ready or Not, a bloody good time that has now spawned a sequel from the same filmmakers. It comes in the wake of Radio Silence re-teaming with Weaving for Scream VI, which further raised the Australian star’s profile and cemented her in the Scream franchise history books.
But what’s NEXT from Samara Weaving? Here are five upcoming projects to look forward to.
Over Your Dead Body – In Theaters April 24
Samara Weaving stars alongside Jason Segel in Over Your Dead Body, which is already bringing Weaving back to the big screen just over a month after Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
From director Jorma Taccone (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, MacGruber), Over Your Dead Body is actually a remake of Tommy Wirkola‘s 2021 Norwegian film, The Trip.
Jason Segel and Samara Weaving play a dysfunctional couple who head to a remote cabin to supposedly reconnect. The bloody twist? Each has secret plans to kill the other.
Meagan Navarro writes in her Over Your Dead Body review, “Over Your Dead Body is one of the funniest films of the year; it happens to be one of its bloodiest, too.”

Carolina Caroline – Coming Soon
Two fan favorites here in the horror world are coming together in Carolina Caroline, with Samara Weaving starring alongside fellow Scream alum Kyle Gallner (Strange Darling).
Carolina Caroline is described as a “romantic crime thriller,” with Adam Rehmeier directing. If you’re not familiar with his work, he also directed Dinner in America and Snack Shack.
In Carolina Caroline, “Samara Weaving stars as Caroline Daniels, whose desire to leave her small Texas town brings her into the orbit of a charismatic con man (Kyle Gallner). Together they weave a path of crime and passion across the American Southeast.”
Tom Dean wrote the screenplay, with Kyra Sedgwick also starring.
Stay tuned for the official trailer for Carolina Caroline.
Bella – Coming Soon
Samara Weaving in ‘Ready or Not’
Originally announced three years ago, Samara Weaving will be starring in director Larysa Kondracki’s action-thriller Bella for Paramount Pictures, which is set in the 1980s.
Bella is said to be a “hyper-stylized action thriller.”
The upcoming film “follows a police officer’s daughter as she embarks on a scavenger hunt to find her father’s attacker and clean up pervasive corruption inside the New York City Police Department after seeing her father struggle to survive.”
Producer Craig Flores previews, “Bella cleverly reinvents the female-lead action genre pairing a sexy and unapologetic rock n’ roll edge with the gritty heightened realism of 80’s New York City. Collaborating with Chad Stahelski and 87Eleven whose talent is singular in bringing unparalleled action films to worldwide audiences is a dream for me, Larysa, and Samara.”
Stay tuned for more on Bella starring Samara Weaving as we learn it.
Down the Rabbit Hole – Coming Soon
Samara Weaving in ‘Ready or Not’
Samara Weaving is set to play the late Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriend Holly Madison in TV mini-series Down the Rabbit Hole, an adaptation of Madison’s best-selling memoir.
The mini-series is being made by Sony Pictures Television.
Down the Rabbit Hole exposes the reality behind the Playboy brand, revealing the harrowing stories of women who entered with dreams only to be manipulated, controlled, and abused.
Weaving told IndieWire in 2023, “[Holly Madison is] so cool. She’s the best. I’m nervous about [playing] Holly Madison, because people have their own idea about who she is.”
Liz – Coming Soon
Samara Weaving in ‘Ready or Not 2: Here I Come’
Samara Weaving will play another real-life figure in the upcoming movie Liz, which explores the life of American founding mother and celebrity Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte.
Adam Leon is directing Weaving in Liz.
Town and Country details, “The forgotten socialite reshaped America’s Jefferson era social scene. Elizabeth is a forgotten celebrity, the daughter of a wealthy Baltimore shipping and real estate magnate, who married Napoleon Bonaparte’s youngest brother, Jérôme, much to Napoleon’s dismay (he give Jérôme a choice between renouncing his wealth and power or abandoning Elizabeth; Jérôme chose the latter). She would later return to America with her and Jérôme’s son-and became an infamous, outspoken icon in a still-nascent nation.”
“Maybe I’m a masochist. You read a really good script or a really good pitch and you can’t say no to it,” Weaving told IndieWire in 2023. “Elizabeth Bonaparte, I’m a huge fan of [director] Adam Leon’s work. Italian Studies is one of my favorite movies, so just working with him is going to be awesome. And Elizabeth Bonaparte is so dope. She’s the first American socialite, first American female millionaire who made every penny on her own.”
