Police say no criminality was involved in a single-vehicle car crash that sent two people to hospital and knocked down a power pole along Columbia Street on Thursday afternoon. A dark-coloured Tesla struck the pole at about 2:30 p.m., causing electrical wires to drop on to the road. The 100-block of the arterial route was closed for some time. According to an eyewitness, the Tesla — which appeared to have been travelling westbound up Columbia Street at Second Avenue — struck the median and sheared off a tree as it launched across the street, striking the power pole on the opposite side of the road in mid-air. “He launched himself through the air,” construction worker Axel Wagner told Castanet. “He went flying through the air. It was insane.” RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet told Castanet Kamloops via email police do not suspect criminality was involved in the collision. Firefighters appeared to use the Jaws of Life to extract two people from the vehicle. The two vehicle occupants were placed in waiting ambulances. BC Emergency Health Services said two people were taken to hospital with what were believed to be serious, but non-life threatening injuries. BCEHS spokesperson Brian Twaites said one of the occupants was sent to Royal Inland Hospital in serious, but stable condition, and the other was in stable condition. BCEHS did not comment on the cause of the crash, citing patient privacy. The crash sent electrical lines to the ground and knocked out power to some 1,000 BC Hydro customers in Lower Sahali.
