Paul Giamatti in "30 Coins" Academy Award nominee — and avowed genre fan — Paul Giamatti will star in the horror film Boutique, Deadline has learned. He’ll play Calvin, an American tourist who journeys to the eerie English seaside town that inspired the work of his favorite reclusive author, where he gets entangled with a murderous secret society permeating the whole town. Filming is slated for the summer, with “Lodge 49” creator Jim Gavin making his feature directorial debut from his own script. Giamatti will produce with Dan Carey via their Touchy Feely Films (John Dies at the End) along with James Harris & Mark Lane for Tea Shop Productions (Obsession) and Guy Danella for XYZ Films (Mandy). Jacob Jaffke (X trilogy) will serve as executive producer. XYZ is financing and handling world sales, with UTA co-repping domestic rights. “I’m crazy excited to be a part of this project and for Touchy Feely to be working with XYZ,” said Giamatti. “Scary, funny, bizarre, strangely moving, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read by one of the most talented guys I know, Jim Gavin!” “We’re honored and excited to be working with a legend like Paul and take his singular talents to new genre territories through Jim’s iconic script,” added Danella. Giamatti is also attached to star in Eli Roth’s “Hostel” TV series, which is in development at Peacock.
