Renny Harlin (Deep Blue Sea) is throwing himself back into shark-infested waters with the upcoming Deep Water, and the film has received its rating from the MPA this week. Deep Water is rated “R” for “violent content/bloody images and some language.” Magenta Light Studios will release Deep Water in theaters May 1. Who stars in Deep Water? After surviving the crash, the survivors soon discover they’re not alone and they must survive the shark infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome their differences if they hope to escape their sinking plane and the frenzy of sharks.” The screenplay was written by Pete Bridges and Shayne Armstrong & SP Krause. Renny Harlin said in a recent statement, “Deep Water represents the kind of movie I’ve dreamed of making since I grew up loving the ’70s disaster movies. James Wan will direct and produce The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil for Paramount. Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan), who starred in the original Korean film from director Lee Won-tae, is also set to star in Wan’s Hollywood remake of The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil. In the original movie, “a police officer and a crime boss reluctantly team-up to track down a serial killer. With each having their own motives, double-crosses and cat-and-mouse games ensue, along with a heaping helping of police versus criminals and gang versus gang action.” The Hollywood Reporter notes, “Shay Hatten, known for his work on the John Wick franchise and Rebel Moon movies, is writing the screenplay based on a draft from Brian Helgeland (A Knight’s Tale, L.A. Confidential), who will serve as an executive producer.” Wan will produce via the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster banner. Interesting to note, Sylvester Stallone and D.
