Roku is launching a new trivia game-like experience called “Roklue,” which will give users an interactive offering for Oscar season with more iterations to come throughout the year — all aimed at spurring them to stream more content.
The company describes Roklue as ”a new on-platform game designed to immerse users in the culture of the moment and help them discover new entertainment in an engaging way.” The first edition, “Roklue: Awards Season,” will launch Saturday, March 7, and feature “clues inspired by Hollywood’s biggest award show moments and celebrated films.”

The goal here is for Roklue to “evolve throughout the year with editions tied to other major cultural moments,” and give users a new way to discover titles available on Roku. Roklue is the latest offering from Roku aimed at engaged audiences, following the launch of “Live From Roku City,” which recently morphed Roku’s scrolling purple screensaver into a “dynamic stage” for a Demi Lovato performance and the digital release of “Wicked: For Good.”
“The Roklue trivia game stared with what we already have on Roku, called daily trivia,” Roku Media head of content Lisa Holme said. “It used to be weekly, now it’s daily. And there was enough interest in it that we upgraded it. So now there’s more interactivity and video elements to it. It will link you directly into the movies that are being clued during the game, if you want to go watch them. So we really saw enough interest from our users in in the daily trivia game that we thought, ‘OK, how do we take this and make it even bigger and better?’ And the other component of it is there’s so much content out there for a consumer to watch that we’re always trying to find ways to connect the consumers with things that they might want to watch in a way that feels fun and not like homework.”
Roklue will be accessible from the Roku home screen without any downloads or setup required to play.
“Roklue: Awards Season” is produced by B17 Entertainment, a part of Sony Pictures Television. Brien Meagher and Rhett Bachner serve as executive producers. Chris Lesinski is executive producer and showrunner.
