This will be the second season of the revival and the show’s 11th season overall. “Shifting Gears” will return for its third season after airing its second between October 2025 and February 2026. In addition, Variety has learned that the comedy pilot “Do You Want Kids?” is not moving forward at the broadcaster. The pilot was co-created by Rachel Bloom and Dan Gregor, with Bloom also set to star. Bloom and Rory Scovel played a married couple who in one universe have a child and in another do not, with the show highlighting how that one decision impacts their lives. In addition, original stars John C. McGinley, Judy Reyes, Christa Miller, Neil Flynn, Phill Lewis, and Robert Maschio all appeared in recurring or guest roles. Popular on Variety Per Disney, the first episode has reached 11 million viewers across all platforms in its first 35 days of availability. Tim Allen and Kat Dennings lead the cast of “Shifting Gears,” which follows Matt (Allen), the owner of a classic car shop, whose life is upended when his wayward daughter Riley (Dennings) moves herself and her two kids into his home. The cast also includes Seann William Scott, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins, and Barrett Margolis. Bill Lawrence created the original “Scrubs” and executive produces via Doozer Productions along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Braff, Faison, and Chalke all executive produce in addition to starring. Aseem Batra serves as showrunner and executive producer, with Randall Winston also executive producing. 20th Television is the studio. Allen is an executive producer on “Shifting Gears” along with Michelle Nader, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, John Pasquin, Jim Patterson, Bob Daily, and John Amodeo. Dennings is a producer. 20th Television produces. With these renewals, ABC has picked up most of its current primetime scripted lineup for the 2026-2027 broadcast season. The only show awaiting word of its fate is the midseason entry “RJ Decker” starring Scott Speedman.
