Some of the most interesting moments from AMC Global Media in months to come won’t be available on traditional screens
The company that owns AMC, IFC, HiDive and other properties is accelerating a move into unexpected venues, setting up connections with communities in places that may not previously have been associated with TV.
AMC has struck a new partnership with Meta, for example, that makes its programs and films available via Meta Quest, the standalone virtual reality headsets once known as Oculus. “We will be launching a number of our streaming apps on Meta Quest, starting with AMC+ later this year,” said Kim Kelleher, president and chief commerical officer of AMC Global Media, during remarks made at a presentation to advertisers Wednesday evening. “Our flagship streaming service will be one of the first entertainment apps available on this groundbreaking device. This is such a meaningful and expansive new partnership for our company and one that underscores our ability to move quickly and innovate to serve our viewers.”

Under Kelleher, AMC has become quite agnostic about the distribution of its programming, working to gather impressions from shows that appear on streaming services, FAST channels and placement on the video services of TV manufacturers.

AMC in June will host a fan event at New York’s Beacon Theater that will have the Vampire Lestat perform original music during a live performance following a screening of the premiere episode of the character’s eponymous series, slated to debut on TV on Sunday, June 7. Played by actor Sam Reid, Lestat will be joined on tour by sponsors POM Wonderful and Fender Musical Instruments Corp.
AMC will expand its partnership with Sphere Entertainment Co. by creating bespoke content for the latter company’s signature event-and-content space that aims to burnish its “Best Christmas Ever” programming schedule. The two entities will team up again for a new Halloween-themed promotion that bolster’s AMC “FearFest” events. The holiday execution will be called “Sphere of Cheer” and widens the two companies’ team-up beyond their “Sphere of Fear.” Both AMC and Sphere are controlled by the Dolan family.
