The five-person group, comprised of AP Bautista (Tell Tale Harbour), Belinda Corpuz (Narnia), Ellie Posadas (Scarborough), Alia Rasul (15 Ways My Dad Almost Died), and Maricris Rivera (Short Dances), is all about using its platform to tell stories about the Philippine diaspora. Tita Jokes is a musical comedy celebrating Flipina women: mothers, sisters, friends, aunties, elders, and Lolas. Expect heartfelt observations alongside plenty of laughs as the quintet explores the use of humour and storytelling as coping mechanisms.Julie KimMarch 8 @ Biltmore CabaretHappy International Women’s Day! To celebrate, Julie Kim (who coincidentally happened to be the winner of Best Comedian in the Straight’s 2023 Best of Vancouver awards) is hosting a live recording of her podcast Bothered. The Bothered IRL show promises to be a night reflecting on all the annoying things in the world—be it the pain of dating, the irritating parts of parenthood that nodody tells you about, or the audacity of random people trying to offer you advice. It turns out that there are actually a lot of things to be bothered about—making the show an unlikely mix of chaotic catharsis, hilarity, and group therapy. Face? Bothered? It’s more likely than you might think. What’s the Craic?: A Night of Irish DevilryMarch 14 @ Rio TheatreWhat are the Irish known for? Beyond stereotypes like red hair, potatoes, and hating the English, the real answer might be heart: stories, music, and comedy that exist to bring people together in the best and worst of times. What’s the Craic?: A Night of Irish Devilry is a celebration of the Emerald Isle’s best parts: its lore, history, and cheeky resilience. Expect burlesque, games, and music, alongside comedians hyping up Hibernia in the run-up to St. Patrick’s Day.Darcy & JerMarch 17 @ Vogue TheatreDarcy & Jer aren’t quite local anymore—the duo lived in Ladner before relocating to Vancouver Island a few years ago—but hey, that’s near enough to count. The married couple made their joint comedy debut at Just For Laughs Vancouver in 2023, and have been on tour ever since—turning their TikTok–famous skits and bits into live shows, stand-up albums, and even a documentary on Crave. Now, the pair are back to where it all began: making jokes about dadhood, plants, and neurodiversity on the Vogue Theatre stage. Come for the bond that only couples with 21 years of marriage under their belts can deliver.Haha, HistoryMarch 28 and April 25 @ Museum of VancouverYou might have seen Myles Anderson on The Debaters, caught his set on The New Wave of Stand-Up, or heard him delivering jokes on SiriusXM. Or, if you’re a regular at the city’s cultural establishments, you might have run into him at the Museum of Vancouver, where he sometimes greets visitors. Now, Anderson has finally figured out how to get paid to do two jobs at the same time with his new show. Haha, History sees him and two fellow comics doing material based on the museum’s collection, tasking the comedians with riffing on the city’s past. Anderson is joined on March 28 by Christine Bortolin and Abdul Aziz, and on April 25 by Rachel Schaefer and David MacLean.Exploration BlankApril 9 to June 27 @ The Improv CentreThe Improv Centre is exploring the galaxy this spring, one suggestion at a time. Exploration Blank features a ragtag crew of adventurers blasting off to accomplish… whatever the audience decides is their goal. Expect a mixture of your favourite sci-fi tropes and character references. Wookies, Vulcans, and Ewoks alike are welcome aboard as the show boldly goes where no improvisers have gone before. Large scrolling text intro TBD.Amar SinghApril 18 @ Little Mountain GalleryAmar Singh is a familiar face in the Vancouver comedy scene, having recorded his debut special Please Don’t Kill Me in 2024 and appearing at Just For Laughs Vancouver and on SiriusXM since. Now, the rising comedian is set to record his second standup special, Lil Cuties, at what we can temporarily rename the Lil Mountain Gallery. Singh’s comedy is silly yet relatable, often riffing on his experiences growing up in an Indian household, such as his viral video from last summer reflecting on how weird it is to see someone’s parents kiss when your own barely touch. (They’re still in love though, right; “What’s a deeper shared bond than mocking your son?”)Mae MartinApril 25 @ Orpheum TheatreFresh off surprise-releasing their debut musical album I’m A TV last year, Mae Martin is returning to Vancouver to headline the Orpheum. While Martin is famously from Toronto and had a stint living in the U.K. (which led to them appearing on and winning Season 15 of Taskmaster), Vancouver holds a special place in their heart: after all, they recorded their 2023 special Sap across the street at the Vogue. Their new show, The Possum, promises to have more of the same gentle, friendly humour that helped Martin cement their title as one of the world’s best-known Canadian comics who happens to be non-binary.Vancouver SketchFestMay 13 @ Rio TheatreThe Smashed Potato Kids are bringing sketchy back. The Vancouver sketch troupe is returning with the third iteration of its annual comedy competition, inviting funny folks from across the city (and beyond) to show their skits on a big screen. Judged by filmmakers Malka Martz-Oberlander and Ryan Jamison, actor Max Lloyd-Jones, and comedian Breanne Williamson, the competition sees 20 of the funniest submissions battle it out to see which four-minute-or-less sketch is the funniest.
