Season 4 of The Boys ended with Homelander (Anthony Starr) fully ascendant, having taken control of Vought International and the United States thanks to a scheme he orchestrated with the brilliant Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). So when you’re the most powerful man in the world, what do you do next? The trailer for the show’s fifth and final season reveals he plans to hold onto all that power by becoming immortal. That goal makes a lot of sense. Homelander was so freaked out by signs he was hitting middle age in season 4 that he started collecting his own gray pubic hair. It’s also a goal that’s surprisingly achievable in showrunner Eric Kripke’s superhero satire. He just needs a dose of V-One, the serum that granted immense powers and immortality to Stormfront (Aya Cash), Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), and Thomas Godolkin (Ethan Slater). Soldier Boy is Homelander’s father, though the latter was created by Vought from a sperm sample without Soldier Boy’s knowledge. Homelander arranges a family reunion by thawing Soldier Boy out of cryostasis, which is a very risky decision given Soldier Boy also has the ability to remove another Supe’s powers. But it seems to be working out for Homelander, since the trailer shows them visiting a medical lab together. Meanwhile, Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) is once again leading The Boys as he seeks to use the Supe-killing virus developed by Godolkin University dean Indira Shetty in the spinoff Gen V to kill Homelander and all the other Supes. That would also kill Butcher and several of his allies, including Starlight (Erin Moriarty), A-Train (Jessie T. Usher), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara). The trailer features the over-the-top gore and political satire that The Boys is known for. While Homelander is enjoying sitting in the Oval Office and sending anyone who opposes him to “freedom camps,” his underlings The Deep (Chace Crawford) and Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell) seem to have settled into the perfect role for themselves: manosphere podcast hosts. The first two episodes of The Boys season 5 will premiere on Prime Video on April 8. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays through May 20.
