‘The Simpsons’ showrunner teases ‘Hit & Run’ revival
NewsGaming News ‘The Simpsons’ showrunner teases ‘Hit & Run’ revival: “We know people love it” The beloved cult classic could be making a comeback By Ali Shutler 16th March 2026 The Simpsons Hit & Run (Credit: Radical Entertainment) The Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman has teased a revival of cult video game Hit & Run in a new interview. READ MORE: Why ‘The Traitors’ is easier if you play video games Released in 2003, The Simpsons Hit & Run took heavy inspiration from early Grand Theft Auto titles and the fan-favourite game went on to sell over 3million copies. Work on a sequel began shortly after launch but the project was ultimately scrapped. Advertisement There has been plenty of speculation about a remake over the years and last month, original developers Radical Entertainment returned as New Radical Games after shutting down in 2013. The studio now “specialises in remastering classic games” and their new website features a lot of nods to The Simpsons Hit & Run. Last week, Microsoft also announced that a number of “iconic” games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 will be returning later this year as part of the revived Backwards Compatibility Program. Now, in a new interview with People, Selman has said “never say never” about a The Simpsons Hit & Run revival. “Hit & Run is so interesting. I’m a thousand years old, and when I was in my late 20s, I helped write Hit & Run. I had no idea it would become a cult game, a cult success,” he explained. “It’s so long ago, but I remember being in a meeting with whoever made it and Grand Theft Auto 3 had just come out, and so we were like, ‘This has to be The Simpsons version of that. You have to be able to get in and out of the cars.’ They so did not want people to get in and out of the cars. We luckily won that battle because it is fun to get in and out of the cars.” Recommended “Nothing is set in stone but my quote about a Hit & Run [revival] would be, ‘Never say never’. Because we know people love it. We know they want it, so that’s good. If we know people want it, never say never.” Back in 2021, Selman said he’d “love” a return of The Simpsons Hit & Run but getting it released would be a “complicated corporate octopus” due to licensing and rights issues. In other news, it looks like Sonic The Hedgehog fans will be able to experience two different concert tours as part of the 35th anniversary celebrations.
