Carl Beust/ShutterstockCountry superstar Charley Crockett has apologized to his Canadian fans after two failed attempts to cross the border forced him to cancel his tour.
The Grammy-winning artist shared an update on social media, posting a photo of a Government of Canada document of an official report for the reasons for the denials of entry.
Citing “Subsection 44(1) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act,” the report revealed that Crockett was refused entry due to a felony conviction of cannabis distribution of over five pounds in the State of Virginia in March 2016.
“This offence, if committed in Canada, would equate to section 5 (2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA), which is an indictable offence that would be punishable by a term of life imprisonment,” stated the report.

“Everybody’s got a past. Mine’s still haunting me,” Crockett posted on Instagram.
“I tried to cross the Canadian border twice in 24 hours. After they denied me entry in Vancouver, I tried again in Kelowna and was rejected a second time.”
The “Lonesome Drifter” singer added that he was advised that he would be jeopardizing his freedom if he tried to enter Canada again, and that he had to cancel his entire Canadian tour.
Crockett was slated to perform in several cities across the country, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, and Ottawa. He explained that full refunds would be issued to ticket holders at the point of purchase.
“I know this doesn’t begin to make up for y’all’s time and hard-earned money. I apologize to everyone affected. I know I let y’all down.”

Fans took to social media to share their disappointment in the tour’s cancellation.
“I’m so sad,” said one supporter. “Hopefully, this can be permanently pardoned somehow.”
“Weed is now legal here,” posted another. “This is so f***ed. I’m sorry, bud. We love you so much up here.”
Crockett added that he loves performing in Canada and that he hopes to be able to come back into the country sooner rather than later.
“Canada’s such a beautiful country full of some of the best fans in the world, and I’ve had the time of my life playing shows for y’all,” posted Crockett on social media. “I ain’t one to quit, and I aim to be back one of these days real soon.”
Crockett isn’t the only country superstar to be denied entry at the Canadian border in recent years.
In 2022, Zac Brown Band was forced to cancel a Vancouver concert due to “unforeseen logistical issues,” but a statement from the band on Facebook shed more light on what happened.
“Each time we’ve come to Canada, we have been at the mercy of a single border agent who decides who is allowed in to work, and unfortunately, not everyone was able to make it in the country last night.”
The Facebook post says that the band is a family, a tribe.
“We stick together and support each other, and we never leave anyone behind.”
