Today, she's officially announcing it. Produced by Justin Raisen, Be Sweet To Me is set for release in May. It'll have "THUM," the debut solo single Grohl released in December, and its B-side "Applefish," which followed in February. As those songs indicated, the alternative rock of the late '80s and early '90s was a prominent influence. “There’s something so powerful about that period of music," Grohl says. "From the messaging to the visuals, it’s authentic and raw." The album also takes inspiration from Grohl's love of David Lynch. And I have to believe Japanese Breakfast informed that choice of title."595," the new single out today, is a poppy grunge track that would have fit in naturally on '90s radio and MTV alongside her dad's Nirvana tracks. And judging by the resounding drumming here, I could have sworn that was Dave himself behind the kit — but no, it's Anthony Paul Lopez.
