Netflix revealed a first look at Will Ferrell‘s upcoming comedy series, newly titled “The Hawk,” and announced a summer premiere window.
The teaser shows Ferrell in character as golfer Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, wearing a hot pink golf shirt and a white visor that says “Hawk” over his curly, platinum blonde hair. As Hawkins poses, a voiceover says, “This summer, a legend returns. An icon. A champion. An American hero.” Hawkins mouths along as the narrator continues: “His name: Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins.” Then Hawkins pipes in, saying, “That’s me. I’m him. That’s who they’re talking about. if you were wondering.”

Netflix also released two additional teasers with slight variations. In one, the narrator adds that Hawkins is “forever remembered for the biggest choke in gold history,” as Hawkins shakes his head, shushes, and says, “Don’t bring that up.” In another, he throws a handful of white chalk powder in the air — a reference to LeBron James, who does the same before his NBA games — then chokes on it. “That was not a good idea,” Hawkins says.

The official description for “The Hawk” reads, “Lonnie Hawkins, 2004’s No. 1 golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife and his son Lance, golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.” Along with Ferrell, the cast includes Molly Shannon, Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby.
Executive producers include Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor for Gloria Sanchez Productions; Rian Johnson, Ram Bergman and Nena Rodrigue for T-Street; Chris Henchy; Harper Steele; David Gordon Green; and Andrew Guest.
