Zach Galifianakis is going from between two ferns to surrounded by carrots, radishes, corn and a whole bunch of other plants.
The comedian and “Hangover” star is hosting a series for Netflix about gardening, aptly titled “This Is a Gardening Show.” The series debuts on the streamer on Earth Day (April 22) with six 15-20 minute episodes.
The show is described as “a refreshing and whimsical take on gardening” that blends comedy and an earnest appreciation for the planet and all the people who live on it. “Rather than positioning himself as an expert, Galifianakis approaches the subject with curiosity and self-effacing humor, with the goal of learning alongside his audience and giving viewers valuable, accessible, and educational tools to use in their own gardens,” according to the logline.

“Zach brings an infectious warmth and humor that makes the world of gardening accessible and delightful for all ages,” said Kim. “He can leave you in stitches one moment and, in the next breath, have you genuinely convinced that horse manure is the chocolate soufflé of the gardening world and before you know it, you’re googling the nearest stable.”
Added Linder, “He is genuinely interested in how to grow stuff. Making this show often felt like Zach’s excuse to talk to other gardeners. I kinda think his garden was struggling and he needed help he couldn’t get by walking up to these people in their backyard. You will see a grown man honestly gasp when shown the proper way to plant a seed. This is peak TV.”
Galifianakis became a comedy superstar in the “Hangover” trilogy and is also known for acting opposite Robert Downey Jr. in “Due Date” and Will Ferrell in “The Campaign.” He co-created and starred in the the FX comedy show “Baskets” alongside Louis C.K. and Jonathan Krisel. And his hilariously awkward interview series “Between Two Ferns” hosted everyone from Justin Bieber to Barack Obama.
Galifianakis is represented by Brillstein Entertainment Partners, UTA and Yorn Levine.
