'Zombies 5' Will Add Mermaids to the Mix; Original Stars Milo Manheim & Meg Donnelly Not Returning - Bloody Disgusting
Freya Skye & Malachi Barton in 'Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires' Zombies 5 will add mysterious mermaids to the Disney Channel Original Movie family-friendly fantasy-horror-comedy-musical franchise. Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly, who starred in all four previous installments, will executive produce but are not reprising their roles as Addison Wells and Zed Necrodopolis. Instead, Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires actors Malachi Barton and Freya Skye will take the lead as Victor and Nova. Franchise regular Trevor Tordjman is also coming back as beloved cheer captain Bucky. The newly greenlit sequel begins production this spring in New Zealand. An official title will be announced at a later date. Following the events of Zombies 4, the newfound peace between the Daywalkers and Vampires is put to the test when a band of fierce mermaids arrives in Rayburn, making waves and casting a persuasive siren song to lure in new allies. Nova and Victor must unite their groups once more to discover what the mermaids are really after in order to protect the fragile harmony they worked so hard to build. Also returning from Zombies 4 are Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas, joined by Emily Costtrici as Zed’s zombie cousin Izzy and a trio of mermaids: Diaana Babnicova as cool-girl Pearl, Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, and Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy. Zombies franchise director Paul Hoen is back at the helm. Chris Hazzard, Michael Fontana, and Eydie Faye (“Fuller House”) penned the script. Zombie 4‘s Skot Bright returns to produce, with Manheim, Donnelly, Hoen, Jane Fleming, Mark Ordesky, Joseph Raso, and David Light serving as executive producers. “Zombies has become a defining franchise for the current generation,” said Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis. “With each movie, we intentionally push the story somewhere new. Introducing mermaids in Zombies 5 opens up a completely different dynamic, while staying true to the music, characters and themes of unity and acceptance that are at the heart of these films.” In 2018’s Zombies, humans and the undead learned to coexist. 2020’s Zombies 2 introduced werewolves to the fray, 2002’s Zombies 3 added aliens to the mix, vampires joined the fun in last year’s Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.
